The spectacle of Balogun and Canada's historic point: results of the second day of the World Championship

The second day of the World Cup brought fans spectacular goals, quirky own goals, and a true historic breakthrough. While the match in Los Angeles between the USA and Paraguay turned into a home team's attacking showcase, in Toronto, the Canadians staged a dramatic chase that earned them their first-ever point in men's World Cup history.

Group D: American Show in Los Angeles

At the stadium in Inglewood, the US team left no stone unturned against Paraguay, defeating the opponent 4-1.

As early as the 7th minute, the hosts opened the scoring thanks to a quirk: Paraguayan defender Damian Bobadilla, trying to intercept Christian Pulisic's cross, sent the ball into his own net. It was the first own goal of the tournament.

The Americans did not slow down. In the 31st minute, Folarin Balogun scored a double: first, he converted Pulisic's pass to make it 2-0, and in added time of the first half, after Malik Tillman's pass, he powerfully shot into the top corner — 3-0.

In the second half, Paraguay looked better and managed to reduce the score in the 73rd minute — Mauricio scored after Julio Enciso's pass (1-3). However, this did not create any intrigue. In added time (90+8), Giovanni Reyna put a spectacular final point, scoring the fourth goal with the outside of his foot.

The outcome of Group D: The USA leads the quartet with 3 points and an excellent goal difference. Paraguay faces a tough battle to advance to the playoffs.

Group B: Fighting Spirit and Canada's First Historical Point

In Toronto, with a packed stadium, the Canadian team created a small historical miracle. Although the Canadians were trailing during the match, the final draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina (1-1) became the "Maple Leafs" first-ever point in men's World Cup history. Until then, the team had 6 losses in 6 matches.

The first half belonged to the visitors. In the 21st minute, Jovo Lukic, for whom this goal was his debut for the national team, excellently played on the rebound with a header after a corner and opened the score — 0-1.

The Canadians desperately tried to equalize. Richie Laryea hit the crossbar, and Bosnian goalkeeper Nik — Vasil repeatedly saved his goal after Jonathan David's shots.

The fate of the match was decided in the 78th minute. Substitute forward Cyle Larin, who had been on the field for only two minutes, received the ball in the penalty area, elegantly turned, and shot into the bottom corner — 1-1. In the remaining time, Canada could have snatched victory, but the score remained unchanged.

The outcome of Group B: Canada and Bosnia share points. For Canada, this is a historical success, giving them excellent chances to advance to the playoffs, especially considering the upcoming matches with other group opponents.

Heroes of the Second Day of the World Cup

Folarin Balogun (USA) scored a double, confirming his status as the main striking force of the tournament hosts. Cyle Larin (Canada) came on as a substitute and scored a crucial goal that earned his team their first-ever point. Giovanni Reyna (USA) scored a beautiful goal in added time.

Thus, the USA has emphatically declared its ambitions for high places, and Canada has proven that even without their injured leader, they can put up a fight. The third day of the tournament promises to be just as intense.
